Landis Center to Become Hub for Community Engagement and Outreach https://landiscenter.lafayette.edu/2024/02/13/landis-center-to-become-hub-for-community-engagement-and-outreach/ Tue, 13 Feb 2024 14:54:28 +0000 https://landiscenter.lafayette.edu/?p=8881 Last April, the President’s Office convened a group of faculty and staff representatives from all areas of campus to explore the multiple ways 纸飞机外国软件叫什么 engages in the community and to determine how the President’s Office might best support these efforts. As the group continued to meet through the summer and into the fall semester, it became clear that the College is in need of better avenues for coordination and collaboration in its community engagement activities, as well as better articulated institutional goals and objectives related to this work. Further, in conversations with representatives from the community, it was evident that external stakeholders would appreciate a more visible point of entry for College engagement, as well as opportunities for more regular communication and outreach to share information and create action around mutual goals and values. In addition, the College could benefit from more opportunities to chronicle the multiple systems of community impact that originate from all areas of campus. Through these many conversations, it became evident that the College has a tremendous resource in the Landis Center and, with some restructuring and repositioning, the Center could become a central hub of coordination and collaboration for community engagement and outreach at the College.

The Center has long been at the crossroads of community engagement activity at 纸飞机外国软件叫什么 and has helped the College build many partnerships with local, regional, and global organizations that enhance student learning and contribute to the well-being of the community. This commitment to community activity and student engagement, coupled with the existing operational framework of Landis, have uniquely positioned the Center to accept additional responsibilities that will help advance 纸飞机外国软件叫什么 ’s commitment to meaningful relationships beyond campus.

The Landis Center will continue to report to the Provost’s Office with significant collaboration with the President’s Office through the Chief of Staff and will continue to draw on existing knowledge and enlist others working in community engagement spaces to strengthen the structures and practices that support 纸飞机外国软件叫什么 ’s connections to the community. As the primary point of contact for community engagement activities, the Landis Center will invite and respond to the interests and concerns of partners and local residents and work with all partners to identify shared goals and deploy resources to advance these goals. The Center will coordinate the structures that support community engagement activity, convene stakeholders around shared values and action, and communicate collective community impact to all partners.

The Landis Team

In order to support this additional charge, the Landis Center will restructure some of their internal responsibilities. Chelsea Morrese will assume the role of Executive Director of Community Engagement in addition to her role as Director of the Landis Center. She will be responsible for supporting the College’s community-facing needs and ensuring that strategic initiatives for community engagement remain aligned with the emerging strategic plan and the underlying mission and values of 纸飞机外国软件叫什么 . She will represent College priorities to external stakeholders and respond to related inquiries, and convene a committee of internal and external stakeholders to identify and create action around shared values and commitments. As always, Chelsea will work with staff in the Landis Center to develop and facilitate the implementation of co-curricular programs and initiatives in engaged scholarship, civic leadership, and social advocacy with the goal of cultivating lasting, mutually empowering relationships with campus, community, and local government partners.

Caroline Lee will continue in the role of Faculty Director. Caroline will continue to facilitate the engaged scholarship community of practice, and will provide additional support to faculty pursuing community-engaged projects in their courses and research.

Jodi Fowler will move into the role of Associate Director of Civic Leadership programs. In addition to Landis’ flagship programs, MOSAIC, ASB, and POSP, Jodi will provide leadership to the LafKid Connect and Community Interns teams. She will also develop and coordinate Landis Peer Leadership initiatives and facilitate opportunities for Landis alumni engagement.

Christine Cohen will take on additional leadership responsibilities as a Program Manager with Landis. She will continue to manage the America Reads program and will also provide support to community-engaged courses and the 纸飞机外国软件叫什么 Votes team.

Sarah Morgan will remain in her role as Program Manager. Sarah facilitates event-based community engagement opportunities for Greek organizations, Athletics teams, and other student groups through her leadership of Landis’ Pard Projects team. She also coordinates the Connected Classrooms program with Cheston and Paxinosa elementary schools and leads campus blood drives with Miller-Keystone.

Mary Foulk will continue in her role as Landis office coordinator. Mary provides program and event support to all members of the Landis team.

Becky Kaine will continue to facilitate background clearances for our campus community in her role as Clearance Specialist.

Transportation policy https://landiscenter.lafayette.edu/2018/10/15/transportation-policy/ Mon, 15 Oct 2018 15:02:32 +0000 http://landiscenter.stage.lafayette.edu/?p=2416 Transportation Policies and Procedures

It is important to the Landis Center for Community Engagement that students have safe and reliable transportation to and from their service programs. To support this initiative, the Landis Center for Community Engagement provides the use of four vans that are insured by 纸飞机外国软件叫什么 College to student clubs, Greek organizations, and athletic teams volunteering in the Easton community. The vans are not available for use by individual volunteers or for any purpose other than community engagement.

The Landis Center for Community Engagement facilitates transportation needs to and from service sites for Community-Based Learning and Research courses, MOSAIC student leadership groups, and affiliated student and/or faculty-led clubs and organizations. Please complete the Transportation Request form located on the Center for Community Engagement’s website at least two weeks prior to your program start-date. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of each program coordinator to ensure that they submit a request for transportation. The Center cannot guarantee transportation for events that do not allow two weeks to secure transportation.

All students wishing to operate vans owned or rented by the Center for Community Engagement must complete the Driver of College-Insured Vehicles Approval process through the 纸飞机外国软件叫什么 Department of Public Safety. The process can be lengthy, so students should complete the requirements at least three weeks before the projected start date of their program. Once a student is certified as a student driver for 纸飞机外国软件叫什么 , they must notify the Community Partnerships Coordinator so that they may be added to the Center’s Approved Driver’s List. The link to the Public Safety Driver Approval Process is below:

https://publicsafety.lafayette.edu/student-driving-of-college-insured-vehicles/

All student drivers must attend a Center-sponsored van orientation before they will be permitted to operate any vehicle owned or rented by the Center for Community Engagement. The van orientation will address proper safety procedures, care of the vans, and drop-off and pick-up procedures. Students must bring a copy of their Driver Approval Form and their score on the Student Driver Quiz to their orientation. Van orientations are held regularly throughout the semester.

Please note that Center for Community Engagement vans can only travel within a 4-mile radius of 纸飞机外国软件叫什么 College. This covers all partners within Easton. If a student needs to travel outside of a 4-mile radius, they should arrange to rent a vehicle through Enterprise. Please note that the Center for Community Engagement cannot reimburse travel costs.

The Center for Community Engagement encourages students to use the LCAT transportation system when it is available and corresponds with their programming. The LCAT schedule is below:

https://publicsafety.lafayette.edu/lcat/

If the Center rental van is not available, registered student drivers may be able to rent a vehicle through Enterprise, also at the above link. Please be sure to fully read the Student Car Rental Policy available on the website.

Students are encouraged to use 纸飞机外国软件叫什么 College insured vehicles when they are available.

Section G of the 纸飞机外国软件叫什么 College Transportation Procedures (rev. May 2017) published by the Department of Public Safety – Parking and Transportation Division states in part:

“Students are discouraged from using personal vehicles for transportation to College events (i.e. field trips, athletic events at Metzgar Fields, etc.) when transportation is provided by vehicles rented by the department or the 纸飞机外国软件叫什么 College Area Transportation (LCAT) shuttle. If a student elects to use a personal vehicle, and an accident occurs, the student’s personal auto insurance provides the coverage and the student is responsible for the deductible. The College’s insurance policy will NOT provide secondary coverage. In addition, the student also assumes all costs of travel and will not be reimbursed by the College.”

Please acknowledge receipt of these policies and procedures by printing your name and signing below.
